Curcumin (Turmeric) – The first line of defense!
A few years back while I was doing the evening dishes some plates and bowls were slipping easily out of my hands. While drying my hands I noticed a hard bump close to the knuckle on my index finger. On the opposite hand another hard nodule in between my index and middle fingers. After several day of stiff hands and having butter fingers I found a hand doctor immediately and booked an appointment for consultation along with x-rays. He told me that what I had were bone spurs, which probably formed from pressure or rubbing. These painful bumps were a precursor to osteoarthritis. Yikes!! If things got worse down the road we’d look at surgery but for now there was nothing to do. The thought of undergoing surgery and cutting open both hands someday just didn’t sound very appealing. After consulting my holistic doctor and chiropractor I decided to treat alternatively first before thinking about surgery. My chiropractor recommended Ayurvedic treatment of massaging as many times a day with a cold pressed (untoasted) sesame oil treatment. He said this would over time break down the spur and restore flexibility. My holistic doctor put me on a twice daily dose of turmeric tea along with Curcumin pills (turmeric).
Here is our recipe for turmeric tea:
4 cups of filtered water
2 tablespoons of organic ground turmeric
2 teaspoons of cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon of ground clove
1/8 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
Simmer the spices in the 4 cups of water in a pot on the stove top until it comes to a slow boil. Reduce heat and continue to simmer for 10 minutes. Using a fine mesh stainless steel strainer pour 1 – 2 cups in a large mug. Once cooled, strain the remainder of the tea into a glass container to reserve for later.
Add almond milk and organic honey to your hot turmeric tea to taste. Drink one turmeric tea in the morning and one before bed.
In addition to the tea I began taking Dr. Danielle’s Turmeric Curcumin capsules daily. They are organic, vegetable capsules and I found them on Amazon.
Within 6 months of starting my treatments my bone spurs disappeared completely and haven’t returned. I still take my turmeric capsules as curcumin is great for any inflammation in the body.
